As marine technology continues to advance, Dragon Geosciences recognizes that nurturing future talent and passing down technical expertise are essential to sustainable industry development. This year, we were honored to sponsor the ROV student team from National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) to participate in the regional round of the MATE ROV Competition held in Hong Kong.

Led by Manager Yen-Yi Lee of NKUST Ocean Affairs Office and Dr. Chieh-Wei Hsu, the team representative visited Dragon Geosciences’ head office to share their experience and extend their gratitude with heartfelt gifts—to our Chairman Dragon Hsi. This warm exchange marked a meaningful milestone in industry-academia collaboration.

As one of Taiwan’s few professional teams offering full-scale ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) services, Dragon Geosciences operates across a broad range of offshore applications—including offshore wind, subsea structure inspections, cable tracking, and salvage operations. Supporting the next generation of marine engineers through concrete actions is part of our long-term mission.

NKUST’s ROV team—Taiwan’s first university-led team of its kind—Led by Manager Yen-Yi Lee of NKUST Ocean Affairs Office and Dr. Chieh-Wei Hsu brought together students from mechanical, electrical, and mold engineering disciplines, working through an industry-style project workflow with iterative testing and refinement.

The MATE ROV Competition simulates real-world underwater engineering tasks—challenging students to design, build, and operate ROVs through scenarios that require image recognition, buoyancy control, and emergency troubleshooting.

Though they did not advance to the final this year, the students demonstrated impressive resilience and innovation, aligning with the spirit of Dragon Geosciences’ own ROV operations. Our chairman -Dragon Hsi encouraged the team to continue striving for excellence and to represent Taiwan again next year with pride.

Dragon Geosciences remains committed to strengthening Taiwan’s marine industries while supporting ocean education. We believe that empowering young talent today lays the foundation for a more sustainable marine future—and we look forward to seeing these future engineers make waves across the globe!
